Avoiding the Faith of Demons

I had hoped to have a different blog post for you today, but alas, it is not ready! But praise be to God I came across a reflection I wrote in my diary seven years ago today.

While I’m disappointed my planned blog post is not ready, I do believe this reflection is worth sharing:

I was thinking about James 2:26- “…Faith without works is dead.” To understand this I started reflecting on what it means to be dead. As a Catholic, I believe that those who are in Heaven, are more alive than those on Earth. Therefore, in order to be truly dead, one must be in Hell. It occurred to me that that those in Hell have faith in God. Even the demons believe in Jesus. Those in Hell have faith, but no works. This means that those on earth who have faith, but no works, are not like the Saints who’s faith motivated them to express their love for God. Instead, they are like the demons who have faith and no works.

I then began to ask myself: what about me says I am a Christian? If someone were to look at my internet history, spending history, calendar etc, would they know I am a Christian? What works, great or small, have I done to show my love for God and express my Faith? Do I live out my faith daily? What areas of my life need improvement? What are some small, achievable steps I can take to better love the Lord.

Dear God, give me the grace to act, the courage to endure the hardships that may result from acting with faith, and the wisdom to know which actions you want me to take.

Amen

  1. Thank you for sharing this, especially during our times where hopelessness is devouring the Christian landscape like wildfires.

Even if only a single soul appreciates and benefits from your efforts, your works, know that God is supremely pleased!

He has called you by name Jacqueline, and with this has encouraged me to never throw my hands in the air!

God bless you and all in your circle!
